What are subsequences?

Pipl.ai campaigns have a powerful subsequence feature that enables you to categorize leads based on certain conditions, allowing for different process flows within the same sequence.

Simply put, a subsequence is a logical division of your sequence that automatically adds leads to a new workflow (subsequence) based on their status.

For example, if you want to run a different workflow for the leads that respond to your email, you can create a sub-sequence within the main sequence with the condition of “add leads when leads reply.” Now, the main sequence’s leads will be added to the subsequence only when they reply to a specific email of the main sequence. Those leads will then be processed as per the steps defined in the subsequence.

This also allows the automation of lead processing based on conditions and simplifies the main sequence steps. Otherwise, you would have to manually filter the leads and add them to another sequence for further processing, or you would over-complicate the main sequence's steps.

This article will show how to utilize this feature to its full potential to drive the best results.

Creating a subsequence

To create a subsequence, you can follow these steps:

1. Open your campaign in edit mode.

2. Click Subsequences in the top navigation bar of the campaign page.

3. Click on the Add Subsequence button.

4. An “Add Subsequence” popup will prompt you to enter the name of the subsequence. Enter a suitable name and click “Next”.

💡It is recommended to name your subsequences logically. For instance, if you are creating a subsequence for all the leads that are “interested” in your product offerings, you can send them to a subsequence named “Interested Leads” and treat them with specialized steps defined in your “Interested” subsequence.

5. In the next section of the popup, you will be prompted to select the condition for when the subsequence should run. You can choose one of the following four conditions for a subsequence:

  • Add leads based on the leads label

  • Add leads based on the text contains

  • Add leads when leads reply

  • Add leads when leads reply (Except Out Of Office & Automatic Replies)

6. Once selected, click Create.

👉 You can change or configure the conditions after the subsequence is created. Learn how to configure subsequence conditions.

You will be redirected to the subsequence page, where you can add multiple steps in your subsequence, generate, preview, and test emails.

If you want to return to the parent sequence page, click the “Back to Campaign” button at the top right corner of the page.

Duplicating a Subsequence

There can be cases where you want to create multiple subsequences that share the same steps with minor changes. The best way to do so is to duplicate an existing subsequence and edit it however you like.

To create a copy of an existing subsequence, go to the Subsequences list and follow these steps:

1. Click on the three dots against the subsequence you want to copy and select “Duplicate” from the dropdown.

2. A “Duplicate Subsequence” popup will prompt you to rename the subsequence. By default, the duplicate subsequence name will be the same as the original subsequence but will have the word “copy” as a suffix. You can edit it as you like and click the Save button to create a duplicate.

3. Once the duplicate sequence is created, a success notification appears at the top of the page, and the duplicate sequence is listed at the top.

Renaming a Subsequence

1. Click on the three dots against the subsequence you want to rename and select “Rename” from the dropdown.

2. On the Rename Subsequence popup, enter the desired name and click Save.

3. The subsequence will be renamed successfully, and the name change will be reflected in the subsequence list where it is listed. A notification of success will appear on the page.

Editing a Subsequence

1. Click on the three dots against the subsequence you want to edit and select “Edit” from the dropdown.

2. The subsequence will be expanded to display its leads, and the options for configuring its conditions and schedule will appear. If no leads are in the subsequence, you will see a message “No Leads Yet.” However, you can still edit the subsequence conditions and schedule.

Deleting a subsequence

1. Click on the three dots against the subsequence you want to edit and select “Delete” from the dropdown.

2. On the Confirmation Deletion popup, click Yes to delete.

3. The subsequence will be deleted from the list, and notification of successful deletion will appear on the page, confirming the deletion action.
