Leads are the lifeblood of cold outreach. They are the potential customers who have shown interest in your offerings. An efficient marketing strategy can help convert these leads to loyal customers. In Pipl.ai, you can add leads to your campaigns in the following two ways:

1. Uploading a CSV file: This option is useful if you have bulk entries, you can upload them all in one CSV file by clicking on this option. Learn more about it.

2. Manually adding a contact: You can use this option if you want to upload leads one by one, manually.

Common steps

Whichever method you want to go by, the first few steps and the path to adding the leads will remain the same as explained below.

1. Click on Campaign in the left menu pane on your Pipl.ai dashboard.

2. Select a campaign from the list of Your Campaigns.

3. To add leads to the selected campaign, click on the edit icon (pencil icon) or on the three dots (meatball menu icon) and select the Edit option from the dropdown.

4. In the Edit window, you will have the following four tabs:

  • Leads

  • Sequences

  • Schedule

  • Settings

5. Click on the Leads tab.

6. Click on the Upload Leads button.

7. A popup will appear on your screen with the following two options. Here, you can decide how you want to add the leads to your campaign. Select one of the following options and continue to the next steps of the selected method to finish adding lead(s) to your campaign.

1. CSV Upload

2. Manual Entry

👉 The next steps for each method are explained under their respective headings below.

👉 Either it’s one lead or multiple leads imported via a CSV file, the records will be uploaded and will be available on the Leads page. You can view it in the Leads tab.

Leads data

On the Leads tab, you can see different columns upon the addition of your first lead. Let's discuss them one by one:

a. EMAIL: This is the email address of your lead. This will be the primary mode of communication.

b. STATS: This column provides information on the Statistics of this lead. It further has three different values:

  • Total Emails Sent

  • Total Open Count

  • Total Reply Count

c. CURRENT STEP: Shows the current step of this lead.

d. STATUS: This column indicates the status of the lead. The default value is “Not Contacted”.

e. CREATED AT: This is the timestamp of when this lead was added to the system.

f. ACTIONS: Click on the Actions tab to perform one of the following two actions.

  • Delete.

  • Mark as Completed.

Manually adding leads to a campaign

If you want to upload Leads one by one manually, please follow these steps to add Leads to your Campaign:

1. On the Upload Leads popup, select the option “Manual Entry.”

2. Once you select Manual Entry an “Add New Lead” form will come up with the following fields to be filled in:

  • First name

  • Last name

  • Email

  • Country

  • Address Line

  • City

  • Country Code

  • Phone

  • Company Name

  • Company Website

Email address is a required field in Manual Entry’s Add New Lead form. Hence, you can not add a manual entry without a valid email address.

3. After adding all the details, click on the Save button to save the Lead to your campaign. The new manually added lead will appear at the top of the list on the Leads page.

Uploading leads using a CSV file

Importing contacts via CSV file is handy and time-saving when you have more than one lead that you want to add to your campaign.

To upload bulk leads from a CSV file, follow these steps:

1. On the Upload Leads popup, select the option “CSV Upload.”

2. Browse the CSV file on your PC and click on the Open button.

3. Once you click on the Open button, a CSV Mapping form will appear on the screen.

4. The CSV Mapping form contains the following details:

a. Your Column: This will display the names of the columns from your uploaded CSV file.

b. Select Type: These are the placeholders in pipl.ai. These placeholders will be mapped with the column names from your CSV file. By default, the system will map the corresponding placeholders with matching columns from the file. For example, if your file had a column name “first_name”, then it will be mapped against “First Name” in pipl.ai.

👉 However, if your file contains duplicating or more than the required columns, you can choose from the Select Type dropdown to apply an action by clicking on the field.

The following are the actions that you can perform:

i. Map the column manually against any of the existing placeholders by selecting from the dropdown list of “Select Type”.

ii. Leave the column unimported by selecting the “Do Not Import” option.

iii. Define a custom variable in pipl.ai to map against the column name in your CSV file by selecting the “Custom Variable” option.

c. Samples: This list displays the sample values from the CSV.

💡 If you have multiple columns in your CSV file that you do not want to upload, you can simply leave them unselected in the Select Type list and checkmark the “Do not import unselected columns” checkbox at the bottom of the CSV Mapping form.

5. Once you have selected your desired mapping, click on the Upload button to upload the CSV data.

6. Upon successful uploading of the file, you will see a success message on the screen.

7. Close the success message and you should be able to see the list of all the uploaded leads in your Leads tab.

You can now start working on creating sequences to engage your leads and make business out of your smart marketing efforts! 🚀
