Recently, we conducted an analysis of hundreds of millions of emails, focusing specifically on those that landed in spam folders. We discovered the significant impact of using non-traditional domains such as .xyz, .online, and .site on email deliverability.

Key Facts:

  • It is believed that Google and Microsoft together account for about 60-70% of the market share for business email service providers. However, approximately 30-40% of the market still uses other ESPs.

  • Our analysis shows that non-traditional domains such as .xyz, .online, and .site have 3-5% lower deliverability to Google and Microsoft email accounts compared to traditional top-level domains like .com, .net, or top-level regional domains like .co.uk.

  • For other ESPs, the deliverability of non-traditional domains can be up to 20% lower.

Spam Detection Software Example:

  • One common spam detection software used by some smaller ESPs analyzes emails and calculates spam points. If the spam points exceed 5.0, the email is flagged as spam. For example, emails sent from a .online domain accumulate enough points related solely to the domain choice, often surpassing the 5.0 threshold, resulting in the emails being flagged as spam, regardless of the content.

TLD stands for Top-Level Domain, and NTLD stands for New Top-Level Domain.

Additional Example:

  • Spam points are also added when the sender uses a .info domain, further reducing the likelihood of successful delivery.

Recommendation:

  • To ensure successful cold outreach, we strongly recommend using traditional domains like .com. This choice significantly impacts whether your emails reach their intended recipients without being intercepted by spam filters.
